Showcase Iconic Porsche
ProudFerret041· Review provided by LEGO · February 18, 2024
This is a fantastic model where every detail is thought out. I built the Turbo version and expect at some point to go back and redo it as a Targa. I love that option as both versions have a unique style. Having seen a finished Turbo version it looks amazing as a show piece. I actually swapped out the black Turbo rims for the silver Targa ones because I like the look better. There are also no stickers whatsoever, every logo is printed and looks amazing so the quality is there. It really does give one satisfaction to press in the lettered Porsche logo at the back rather than a sticker.
It holds together very well when put together properly. My young son has had his hands all over it and it stays together, which is the ultimate test for any of my legos! I had a build issue similar to a one star reviewer where the windshield doesn’t connect well. I double checked my build and found I had misplaced a couple of crucial pieces. So if you have issues make sure you go back and double check every piece. I took a build point off for a distorted piece that I have to reorder that doesn’t fit well and creates a gap at the back (see second photo). Lego’s reordering of replacement or missing pieces has always been great so I’m not too fussed. That being said, it still takes away from the build.

All in all I highly recommend this build, Lego has done an incredible job of recreating an iconic car.
Disappointed

I have built many Speed Champions and Technic sets with success and pleasure and decided on my son’s recommendation to try this Porche 911. So having spent more than I usually do on sets I looked forward to building this set. It started off well, built the chassis and rear end and put the seats in. Then I opened bag 5 to start the front end, and on the first stage assembly (Stage 154) I found I was missing two parts. So I thought, okay, I’ll see if I can order these parts and skip to the next stage got as far as stage 158 and more parts missing. At this point I thought I’d check the rest of bag 5. Took me a couple of hours and found over 50 parts missing, so made a list and ordered from Lego took me about 4 hours in all. Then I received a mail from Lego to say my request had been declined as I’d ordered too many parts. I have since contacted Lego and received a couple of emails assuring me that they would get the parts to me. Now I hope I’ve listed all the parts, but it was a bit confusing as some parts are used multiple times. So I am waiting now to see what happens. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed and I shall think carefully about spending £150 or more on other kits. Sad to say I couldn’t really recommend this kit.
Challenging, and yet relaxing build

Challenging, and yet relaxing build. I found building the Porsche 911 to be the nicest of all of the Lego large cars. The instructions were flawless, making the fit of the pieces absolutely perfect and easy to work with.
Although I’m not personally a fan of the overall look of a Porsche, and never have been, I find myself growing very attached to the overall Porsche dimensions and looks by building this model. The clean lines a timeless shape of the Porsche whether it’s a love it or leave it a fair for you building this car will definitely be something you’ll never regret. Of all of the Lego cars that I have built, it seems to have the best fit as far as strength and durability, and does not ask you to get into a lot of contortion to fit pieces in late in the game.
I highly recommend this model build. as you can see in my photos, I also have the James Bond Aston Martin DB five, 1969 Camaro, and the 1968 mustang. I also have built the back to the future car, which actually is my least favorite due to the fit and instructions.
Once again, Lego and especially the designer, Mike Psaiki have a struck gold. well Done.
I chose the Targa version, which, yes, does include a snap on roof that stores under the hood.
Scaling to other LEGO large cars, based on wheel base, it appears that Camaro and Mustang models are scaled a little longer, yet narrow er than the Porsche model, and the James Bond DB5 has the smallest scale of all four. (Not taken precise).
Too fragile

This is the first time I am leaving a negative review. There are a couple of places in the instructions that were very unclear and I had to go back and do a couple of minor rebuilds. However, the main problem was with how many pieces are attached in a less than secure fashion. I had to glue at least 10 or 15 pieces. I am sure I followed the directions correctly. I actually put a Do Not Touch sign where the Porsche is displayed. I have done quite a few complicated builds including: BMW Motorcycle, Yamaha Motorcycle, Chevy Camaro, Mustang, Corvette and various other sets. This was the only set that was so frustrating. I came close to not finishing. The finished project does look good.
