Solid, if uninspired 2-pack

June 9, 2024It seems to me very strange that Aston Martin should be getting so many Speed Champions 2-packs, first with the AMR Valkyrie in a horrible color and the Vantage GT3 car, and now a safety car and F1 car in green. Basic Lego Green isn't what i would have chosen to represent the current Aston Martin livery color, but among the other speed champs lineup it's a nice touch of color that otherwise wouldn't exist.
I'll start talking about the F1 car, because it's what attracted me to the set. I was curious how different it would be from the McLaren F1 car that's also available right now, and it will not come as a surprise to anybody to learn that the build is very, very similar. Not identical; there are slight variations to the side pod piece choices, and the rear wing is fully a different construction, resulting in a smaller wing than the McLaren. I don't know to what extent these changes reflect actual differences between the McLaren and the AM F1 cars, but it's nice that it wasn't a pure copy-paste job.
The safety car follows a similar construction methodology to most of the other Speed Champion sportscar coupes, with some interesting stuff to do at the rear and the front in order to construct the facia, but nothing crazy enough to bring up here.
Ultimately this is a solid couple of cars to add to the speed champs lineup, but the biggest question mark is whether the value proposition is there compared to other sets in the range. Most of the 2-packs have at least one extremely strange car, either a dragster or a truck or something that really breaks the mold in terms of technique. The F1 car would be that... if i couldn't just buy the McLaren F1 car, which builds nearly the same. If you're looking at this set or the Mercedes AMG 2-pack with the G-Wagen and the SL, get the mercs.
It's alright.

June 10, 2024Honestly, for the same price as the Mercedes Pack that just came out, I feel it was under whelming seeing the size of the vehicles compared to the other pack. In terms of the F1 car, I feel like I've built it already with the other 2 F1 offerings you can get, I didn't feel it brought anything unique here, I understand they are all F1 cars, so it makes sense the builds are the same, so other that increasing your collection, it was okay.
The Safety car was a bit disapointing, I feel the car doesn't have that many features, I felt like I was building a normal car. Build was okay, but I feel the car is the least special in my collection of Speed Champions.
I'm still happy to have them both in my collections, but I feel they are the cars that stand out the least. If you don't have an F1 car already, then this might be more worth it for you. But overall, not my best Speed Champions (but I'm also getting picky with all the sets that I've built :D )
Lights out and away we go.

June 8, 2024It’s formula one, need I say more.
I have all the formula one sets that are available so far, I was I 100% getting the Aston Martin to continue the collection.
While the build was great as expected I was a little disappointed at the colour is completely wrong, I appreciate that the correct colour of the Aston is not made in Lego, however if this is the case either make the colour as a one off or choose a different brand, Ferrari for example where the colour is already available, . That said I am still hoping this is released in a large set like the McLaren and Mercedes.
This was my first time ordering direct from Lego.com, and again I was a little disappointed, if I had know the set would only be sent on release day and not delivered I would have taken a trip to my nearest Lego store so I could have it on release day rather than eating 4 days.
All in all, great build, great value for money just a couple of disappointing points.

September 26, 2024This is an excellent set for car enthusiasts and Formula 1 fans. Both models are highly detailed, with the AMR23 capturing the sleek, aerodynamic look of a real F1 car, and the Vantage Safety Car featuring the iconic light bar. The build experience is enjoyable, with clever techniques used to achieve realistic shapes. Despite their small scale, the cars are durable and look fantastic on display. Overall, it's a great addition to the Speed Champions collections and worth the price for the level of detail.
